As I progressed through my education, I was provided the opportunity to use my skills in several real-world scenarios. These scenarios or 'Client Projects' as they were called required myself (and a partner in several cases) to use connections and ideas to develop a solution fulfilling the requirements of the course as well as those of the Client.

Multi-Purpose Trail:
Using Project Management techniques alongside previously developed skills and abilities, my partner and I developed a new multi-purpose trail for Kejimkujik National Park. We decided that using a combination of vector and raster datasets for our suitability inputs would provide us with the best results with a Best Path analysis. Our chosen inputs were as follows:
Provincal Routing Network:
Local Information Utility:
This project entailed completing the initial research, data collection and categorization as well as attribute management in order to develop a Local Information Utility or LIU. In order to complete this task, I was assigned the role of Project Manager and over the course of roughly four weeks lead a team of two first-year students through the project.
While I did assist in the data collection and categorization, my main duties involved communicating with the Client regularly to setup progress meetings as well as discuss any problems that arose. I was also continually managing anywhere's from 3 to 7 geodatabases for the project ensuring the redundant copies (backups) as well as the working and finalized databases were syncing between the various computers. |
